Ruilmarkt

No money changes hands here. You swap one item for another - no prices, no amounts, nothing for sale. How it works.

Accessibility

Ruilmarkt should be usable by everyone: with a keyboard, with a screen reader, magnified to 400 percent, in light and dark.

What this site has to meet

The standard is WCAG 2.2 at level AA, the same standard that applies to government websites.

How this was checked

On 27 September 2026 every page of the site was tested: the public pages, everything a member sees and the administration. This was done in the light and the dark theme, with the axe-core 4.10 testing tool. In addition it was checked by hand whether everything works with the keyboard alone, whether the focus always stays visible, and whether the pages remain readable on a narrow screen 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.

Everything that came up was fixed in the same release. This is our own test, not an inspection by an independent agency.

What is still limited

  • The map is a picture with pins. Every item on it can also be found through the list, the categories and the search field; you can also choose a location by typing a place name.
  • Photos are posted by members themselves. A screen reader reads out the item's title for a photo; there is no separate description per photo.
  • What members write themselves stays in their own words and language. It is not translated.
